Dwight brings a wealth of experience and insight from the public and private sectors. He recently retired from Urban Dreams as the Associate Executive Director, is currently a Certified Substitute Teacher for the Des Moines Public School System, and the Johnston Community School District.

He received his M.P.A from Drake University, B.S from Upper Iowa University, and A.A from Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC). He is a member of Drake University’s Pi Alpha Alpha National Honor Society recognizing scholarship, leadership, and service.

Dwight taught ‘Personnel Supervision’ courses as an adjunct instructor at DMACC.  In addition to teaching at DMACC, he received the DMACC Urban Campus Alumni Association Outstanding Alumnus Award twice (1991 & 2018). He received the 2021 SAGE OVER 70 Award for his work in the community helping make Des Moines a greater place.  Also, he has served as a board member  of Proteus Employment Opportunities Inc.  and ManUp ( mentoring youth).

During Dwight’s career in the private sector, He worked in several management level and executive positions with BP Amoco (Des Moines, Chicago, Saint Louis), General Electric (Chicago), and Asurion Wireless (Nashville). He retired from Asurion as the Director of Customer Satisfaction and the Office of the CEO.  

 

In his leisure time he enjoys music, writing, and golfing. As a self-taught musician, his dedication and commitment  in learning to play the piano, keyboards, and percussion instruments has led to several engagements in Nashville, Atlanta, Chicago, Des Moines. Dwight is a published author as well. He and his wife Gloria reside in Ankeny.
